SMC Runners Post New School Records at Nationals

SPARTANBURG, SC -- The Spartanburg Methodist College men's team and the top SMC female runner returned from the NJCAA National Cross Country Championships on Sunday afternoon after four days in El Paso, Texas.

The men's team, which qualified for its fifth trip to nationals in the last five years, posted its fastest five-man average in school history and its fastest total time in school history. More

Sparrow Hall Dedication

Dedication ceremonies were held at noon September 20, 2006 for Sparrow Residence Hall, located across from Bridges Residence Hall and adjacent to Barrett Learning Center.

Members of the Sparrow family were on hand, as well as SMC Trustees, staff, faculty and students for this celebration of the college’s new residence hall, housing 118 male students. More

Spartanburg Methodist College has successfully completed its “Vision 2005” $20 Million Total Funds Campaign.

The Campaign developed $20,818,469 in total commitments. In addition to the more than $5.8 million raised in Annual Fund operational support, more than $4.5 million was committed for capital projects. More

Full classes, full parking lots and a beehive of activity on the Spartanburg Methodist College campus are unmistakable signs that summer is over.

This year, SMC saw even more first-time college students, and more of last year’s freshmen have returned.

Paralegal Graduation

The Paralegal Certificate Program at Spartanburg Methodist College graduated its second class August 20 during a ceremony at Davis Mission Chapel.

Speaking to the class, Seventh Circuit Solicitor, Trey Gowdy, praised the achievement of the graduates for maintaining high grades and completing the program while juggling their coursework with jobs and family.

Spartanburg Methodist College announced that Mike Foley will coach the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams beginning with the 2006-2007 season. In recent years Foley has coached cross country throughout the Upstate, most recently as Head Boys and Girls Cross Country Coach at the South Carolina Governor's School for Arts & Humanities in Greenville.

Spartanburg Methodist College named Teresa Ferguson as their new Chief of Campus Safety. Ferguson has 11 years of experience as a police officer. For the past six years, she served as a School Resource Officer for Spartanburg County School District Five through the town of Duncan Police Department.

Bob Isenhower has been named Coordinator of Assessment Activities and Academic Advisement at Spartanburg Methodist College.

Isenhower comes to SMC from Spartanburg Technical College, where he served in key positions until his retirement in 2005. At STC, Isenhower also served as a counselor, Student Activities Coordinator, Director of Adult Education, Director of Developmental Education, Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs, Acting Vice President of Academic Affairs and Vice President for Planning.

Paralegal Program Registering for Fall I Term

The Paralegal Certificate Program at Spartanburg Methodist College is now registering students for the Fall I term. 

Classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 until 9 p.m. and will run for 10 weeks, from August 22 until October 26. Tuesday night course selections include Legal Writing, Introduction to Paralegal Studies, and Trial Evidence. Thursday night courses will include Human Growth Potential, Computers for the Law Office and Forensics/Crime Scene Investigations, and Criminalistics and the Law.

The Dr. Gaines W. Hammond family of Spartanburg has provided funding to establish the Hammond Family Memorial Endowed Scholarship and to help renovate Hammond Residence hall at Spartanburg Methodist College.

Higdon New Wrestling Coach

Spartanburg Methodist College announced the hiring of Robbie Higdon to coach the Men’s Wrestling Team.

Higdon plans to build on the successes the Pioneers have made during their first three seasons of intercollegiate wrestling and to seek higher national rankings.
