Counseling and Career Center Services and Facilities Available:
Personal/ Group Counseling -The SMC Counseling and Career Center provides a wide range of personal and group services for our students. Whether the concern is a problem or a decision that you need to sort out, counseling is often the best way to clarify your concerns and learn how you might deal with them more effectively. The SMC Counseling and Career Center can assist with this individual search under the direction of its professionally trained staff and certified counselors. The services are all confidential and offered at no additional cost to the student. The Counseling and Career Center is also prepared to refer you to additional helping professionals and services on campus, which may include other Student Development professionals or the College Chaplin. Referrals can also be made to professionals in the surrounding community.
Career Development -A plan is the basic building block of success, yet setting a direction for your life is often a difficult process. Your values, your dreams and your career hopes must be taken into account, and the more you know about yourself and opportunities available, the easier it will be. The SMC Counseling and Career Center can help you through this process with personality testing (MYERS-BRIGGS PERSONALITY INVENTORY), or computer based evaluation programs - SIGI Plus (System of Interactive Guidance Information) linking your career values with potential careers and CCM (Choosing a College Major). The SDS (Holland's Self-Directed Search) is also available for student career exploration. Counselors can help you sort through your options to arrive at a clear picture of your future. This service is available to all SMC students. The hours are flexible, and appointments can be made for special situations.
College Transfer -Up-to-date senior college catalogs, videos, and transfer applications are maintained for our students. In addition, senior college recruiters visit each semester to assist our sophomores with transfer decisions. Our professional staff can address all concerns related to transferring. The Peterson's Computer College Search Program is a computer program that further provides assistance in your decision to transfer.
