Men’s Basketball Eliminated In 3rd Round of Region Play
SPARTANBURG, SC – The SMC men’s basketball team was eliminated Sunday in its third round of play in the Region X tournament, however posted its best season record (16-5, 24-8) in seven years.
The men went into the tournament as the No. 2 seed and opened it with a 99-53 win over Roanoke-Chowan Community College on Feb. 27. The next day, the Pioneers narrowly defeated Cape Fear Community College 61-57.
The Pioneers lost 81-65 to Brunswick Community College in their third round of tournament play.
Brendon Knox, a sophomore from Georgetown, SC, was named to the Region X Men’s Basketball 2nd Team All-Region. Kendrick Robinson, a sophomore from Goose Creek, SC, was named to the Region X Men’s Basketball 3rd Team All-Region.
“Our men had an excellent season. To make it to the Regionals and advance as far as they did is a tremendous accomplishment. Their season record alone shows just how competitive and talented these players are,” says Perdue.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
The College is in its 97th year of providing a quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
