Lady Pioneers Softball In Top 25 

SPARTANBURG, SC –   Four weeks into the season, Spartanburg Methodist College’s Lady Pioneers softball team is ranked in the Top 25 of the National Junior College Athletic Association.

The Lady Pioneers are currently 4-0 in region play (8-5 overall) , with a No.23 ranking in the NJCAA, and have two pitchers ranked nationally. 

Sophomore pitcher Brittany Scoggins, of Boiling Springs, SC, is ranked 21st with a .686 earned run average and is 7-2 on the season. She is also ranked 19th in strikeouts per game and 1.176 K’s per game. 

Fellow pitcher Chelsi Edwards, a sophomore from Inman, SC, is ranked 32nd in strikeouts per game and 1.067 K’s per game. 

The Lady Pioneers mostly recently split with North Greenville on Tuesday, winning 7-2 in game one and losing 3-2 in game two. SMC gave up three unearned runs in game two. 

Freshman pitcher Jennifer Lamonica, of Toronto,  pitched her first win of the season in game one, pitching for five innings. 

Scoggins was also strong on the mound in game two but the Lady Pioneers’ defense hit a brief snag  that allowed three unearned runs to be scored with SMC at two outs. 

On Monday, the Lady Pioneers won two scrimmage games  against Missasuaga North, a Canadian travel team, with a 7-5 and 6-2 win. 

SMC will next play at home doubleheader against Pitt Community College on Friday, March 14, starting at 2 pm. 

Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.   

The College is in its 97th year of providing a quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
