SMC Men’s Golf Takes 2nd, Women Place 1st At Montreat Invitational 

SPARTANBURG, SC –   The Spartanburg Methodist College women’s and men’s golf teams came in first and second respectively at the Montreat College Spring Invitational this week at the Crooked Creek Golf Course in Hendersonville, NC.

The 11th ranked Lady Pioneers finished with a  combined 698, beating 2nd place Tennessee Wesleyan by 47 strokes.  

This is the Lady Pioneers’ first repeat win on a golf course since the team started last fall. They won the Montreat College Fall Invitational last fall. 

SMC’s Megan Bradley, a freshman from Mayesville, SC, finished an  individual 2nd in the tournament, shooting 169 (85/84) and coming in three strokes short of the leader. 

On the men’s side, sophomore Matt Jackson, of Gloverville, SC, claimed the top men’s spot with a 141 combined score (73/68), two strokes ahead of the second place finisher. 

Jackson led the 19th ranked SMC men’s team to a second place overall finish with a combined 605 (312/293) score. 

Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.   

The College is in its 97th year of providing a quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
