SMC Men Place 2nd At Cavalier Invitational
KINGSPORT, TN -- Spartanburg Methodist College's men's golf team placed 2nd in the UVA Wise Cavalier Invitational in Kingsport, TN on Tuesday, with all of the team's players finishing in the Top 25.
The SMC men posted a two-round combined score of 592, 14 strokes below first-place winner Tennessee Wesleyan.
Sophomore Matt Jackson, of Gloverville, SC, posted a first place tie at two strokes over par (142) for the event.
Freshman Shawn Cordle, of Spartanburg, finished in at two-way tie at 6th place with a 144.
Sophomores Andrew Fortune, of Spartanburg, and Craig Hudson, of York, SC, tied each other at 19th place, with freshman Greg Jaeggi, of Simpsonville, SC, in a three-way tie at 21st place.
The men's team will close off its season April 21 and 22 at the NJCAA Region X / District 5 championships in Wilmington, NC.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
The College is in its 97th year of providing a quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
