SMC Men’s Golf Finishes In Top 5 At District V Championship
Pioneers Place 2nd In Region X Tournament

WILMINGTON, NC – The SMC men’s golf team finished 5th  place in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Division I District V championship, while pulling a 2nd place finish in the Region X tournament Tuesday at Magnolia Greens Golf Course in Wilmington.

SMC finished with a combined three-round score of 942, 28 points off of the Region X champions.

Freshman Jamie Mabe, of Lexington, SC, shot a 12-over par, three-round combined score of 228 and placed at No. 7. Mabe was also named to the All Region X team and finished tied for 2nd in the region.

Sophomore Matt Jackson, of Gloverville, SC, also placed in the Top 25 with a combined score of 233.

“Overall we had a very average tournament. We fell short of our goal in winning the Region 10 and going to nationals. You just never know if everyone is going to play their best and evidently we did not,” says Men’s Golf Coach and Athletic Director Mark Perdue.

“But we had a good year despite having four freshmen in the lineup at most tournaments. Expectations will be very high for next year,” adds Perdue.

Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The College is in its 97th year of providing a quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
