Amber Hartley, of Batesburg, SC, was presented with the 2008 Vicki Corn Award.
The award is presented annually to the softball player demonstrating high academic achievement, spirited play, dedication and commitment to excellence, and is named is honor of former SMC softball coach Vicki Corn who coached the softball team for 11 seasons from 1984 to 1994.
“We don’t vote on team captains; we see who naturally rises to that status. Amber Hartley was a team leader in every sense of the word,” says head softball coach Rick Pauly.
Hartley was a catcher for the Lady Pioneers softball team during both of her years at SMC. In the 2008 season, she was named Region X Tournament MVP and selected as a member of the All-Region X 2nd Team. She will be attending Erskine College this fall, where she has signed to play softball.
Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
The College is in its 97th year of providing a quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
