SPARTANBURG, SC –   A Midland Valley High School softball standout will be playing on the Spartanburg Methodist College Lady Pioneers softball team next year.

Haley Sheehan recently signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball at SMC in the 2008/2009 season.

“She is a great addition to our softball program,” says Pauly, who adds that Sheehan is one of the top middle-infielders in South Carolina.

“Haley is a big-time player both defensively and offensively. Her overall athleticism is abundantly apparent as soon as you see her on the softball field. I expect her to make a big impact on our team next season,” comments Pauly.

Sheehan has been a four-year starter for Midland Valley’s softball team under the leadership of coach Michelle Yeater and was an All-Region selection in 2007.

Additionally, Sheehan is a two-time All-Region player in volleyball and basketball.

She was nominated in 2007 to the High School Sports Report All-State Softball Team. In summer softball camps at the University of Georgia, North Carolina State University, and the University of South Carolina she has also been selected as the outstanding player.

“Haley is not only a phenomenal athlete, she is very civic-minded and excels academically as well. She is exactly the type of student athlete that SMC strives to recruit,” says Pauly.

Sheehan is a member of the Who’s Who Among American High School Students and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, as well as a volunteer for Special Olympic events.

She is the daughter of Bill and Dee Sheehan of Graniteville, SC.

Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The College is in its 97th year of providing a quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
