Statford High Standout Signs With SMC Softball
Jackie Slawson signs with SMC

Jackie Slawson (seated) has signed to play softball with Spartanburg Methodist College next year. Present at her signing
(l-r) were Tim Carpenter, coach of the South Carolina X-treme travel ball program;  grandparents Thomas and Bernice Slawson ;
mother, Alicia Slawson; Slawson’s brother, RJ Slawson; father, Randall Slawson; and SMC head softball coach Rick Pauly.

SPARTANBURG, SC –   Another outstanding player from the Stratford High School softball program is making her way to Spartanburg Methodist College.

Jackie Slawson,  of Ladson, SC recently signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball at SMC. She will be joining former Statford teammate Laura Trout for the 2008/2009 season at SMC.

“Jackie has the skills to make a big impact for this team next season. She is very fast on the base paths and gets a great jump on the ball in the outfield. Jackie takes advantage of her speed as she is a lefty slapper that can put real pressure on opposing defenses. Combining her power with her slapping will give the opposition fits,” says SMC head coach Rick Pauly.

 “We lose some real speed in our outfield through graduation this year so we are looking at Jackie to fill the void,” he adds.

Slawson also plays on the South Carolina X-treme travel ball team.

Pauly says Slawson fits the mold he is looking for.

 “She is a very good student along with being a very good athlete. We set goals both athletically and academically for the team and Jackie will certainly help us fulfill these,” he says.

Slawson is the daughter of Randall and Alicia Slawson of Ladson, SC.

Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The College is in its 97th year of providing a quality education to students in a Christian environment. More than 90 percent of SMC graduates continue their education at other institutions of higher learning.
