Thunder Cat Tournament
September 15-16, 2007
SMC Softball Starts Strong
The Spartanburg Methodist College Lady Pioneer softball team started their 2007 Fall season with some impressive performances at the Thunder Cat Tournament held at Byrnes High School on Sept. 15 and 16.
SMC split its team into two squads for the competition, with both squads putting forth strong performances offensively and defensively. Team highlights of the weekend were wins over NCAA DII teams and two strong ASA Travel Ball teams. The Pioneers defeated both Newberry split teams and tied Erskines single team in a 0-0 defensive battle. Additionally, SMC defeated the South Carolina Extreme and the Thunder Cats.
Outstanding individual efforts for the weekend included a no-hitter by Freshman Brittany Scoggins, of Boiling Springs, against Newberry Black, which was followed up by a no-hitter by Sophomore Chelsi Edwards, of Inman, against Erskine College. Freshman Laura Trout, of Summerville, put on an offensive power hitting display knocking four balls out of the park for homeruns.
