SMC Volleyball Finishes 2-1 On First Road Trip of Season
Pioneers Hand Defeats to Lenoir and Louisburg, Fall to Pitt
SPARTANBURG -- The Spartanburg Methodist College Women’s Volleyball team finished 2-1 on their first road trip of the season.
For the second time this season the Lady Pioneers handled Lenoir Community College 3-1 (30-27, 30-18, 26-30, 30-17) on Thursday night in Kinston, NC. Tori Criminger led with 12 kills, 11 digs, 10 blocks and one ace while Tiffany Dean also chipped in with 14 kills and 11 digs.
The Lady Pioneers suffered their first loss of the season Friday night in Greenville, NC versus Pitt Community College 1-3 (23-30, 27-30, 30-25, 28-30). The Lady Pioneers were down two games to none and fought back to win game three 30-25 behind the solid play of Criminger. Pitt finished off the match in game four 30-28. Despite a good showing from the Lady Pioneers in game four, they were hounded by missed serves (12) and hitting errors (15) through out the entire match.
Criminger finished the night with 15 kills on 37 attacks with only four errors, 21 digs, eight blocks and three aces. Jen Kelley also chipped in with 21 assists, 10 digs and three aces.
Saturday was a different story as the Lady Pioneers swept Louisburg College 3-0 (30-25, 34-32, 30-13). After winning game one the Lady Pioneers found themselves in a 10-point deficit before clawing their way back to win game two 34-32. Kayla Potter led the Pioneers with 10 kills on a .348 hitting average, 15 digs and two blocks. Dean was solid through out the match finishing with 14 kills, 15 digs and four aces. Kelley chipped in 22 assists, nine digs and two blocks for the Lady Pioneers.
The Lady Pioneers ended the weekend 2-1 in Region X play with a 6-1 overall record.
The Lady Pioneers will be back in action when they face Blue Ridge CC in Flat Rock, NC on Thursday night. Game time is set for 7pm.
