SMC Welcomes Director of Learning Resource Center/Head Librarian

A national search brought Erin Shaw Washington to Spartanburg Methodist College on July 1st to assume the role of Director of the Learning Resource Center/Head Librarian for the Marie Blair Burgess Library.  Erin brings the right combination of qualifications, professional interest and experience to grow and maintain the library as an influential and effective presence on campus as the college enters its 102nd year of operation.

Most recently, Erin served as Assistant Director of Library Services at Southern Wesleyan University where she was the reference team leader for all library instruction and more than doubled the number of library instruction sessions employing face-to-face format, chat client, online materials and tutorials, and conducted virtual sessions through the use of software.  In addition, she maintained SWU’s library website, taught freshman seminar and served on the Faculty Development, Quality Enhancement Project and Fine Arts Committees.

Born in Minnesota, and raised in the Winston-Salem, NC area, Erin earned an undergraduate degree in horn performance at the University of Georgia and a Master of Music in horn performance at the University of Maryland, College Park, where she also completed her Master of Library Science.  As a musician, she particularly enjoys assisting students with their music history research projects.  She and her husband, Dr. Darian Washington, a member of the music faculty of North Greenville University, share a love of the French horn and both share their musical talents with their church.  She resides in Greer with her husband and young son, Paul.
