The SMC Music Department offers classes in Music Appreciation, Private Lessons in Piano, Voice, and Class Guitar, as well as all four levels of Music Theory necessary to continue as a music major at a 4 year school. A graduate of SMC with an emphasis in music should be able to resume college or university studies as a music major at the junior level.

Also available are choral and instrumental ensembles

• The SMC Singers open to any student as long as the student can match pitch, with no previous experience necessary.
• The SMC Troubadours ­ an auditioned choral ensemble of 16­20 members traveling around the region offering concerts and worship music. Concerts are usually at churches at least one
• Sunday morning a month and usually sing several times a semester in Chapel. Many members receive a scholarship for membership.
• Instrumental Ensemble ­ which is a small group of instrumentalists who gather twice a week to rehearse.
• Many ensembles will perform in chapel several times a semester, and at the end of each semester all groups perform in the Spring or Fall Concert, and often in the musical theater presentation as well.
• The performances are the final exam for any performance class.

MUSI-230: MUSIC THEORY III. (3 hours) This course is the study of diatonic harmony through writing and analysis. Aural, sight-singing, rhythmic, and keyboard skills are included. Prerequisite: MUSI-131 or permission of the instructor.
