Parents and Visitors Attending Commencement Services:
Students may invite six guests to attend the Commencement program.
Guests are encouraged to arrive at the Sparrow Hall Plaza and to be seated at least 30 minutes before the ceremony begins.
In the event of rain, an announcement will be made on the SMC home page, via student email and via SMC social media accounts regarding holding the ceremony inside Bridges Arena.
Overflow seating will be located in Camak Auditorium (next to the Plaza), where families may see the ceremony via live video feed.
Campus Safety officers will direct guests to parking. Disabled guests will be directed to accessible parking in the Bridges parking lot.

Participation in graduation is open to May graduates, potential summer school graduates and December graduates from the prior year. There is no separate fall/winter graduation ceremony.
Graduating students must have:
- A cumulative 2.0 or higher GPA
- Summer School graduates can lack no more than eight hours of degree requirements and must be pre-registered in the College’s Summer School.
- The student’s last classes must be in residence at Spartanburg Methodist College to qualify for participation in the ceremony
Potential graduates must attend the Graduates’ Meeting in early February to order their cap / gown for the ceremony. Instructions will be included in the cap / gown packet for graduates.
