Calendar of Events

2022 Commencement Ceremony

Date/Time: Saturday, May 7 at 9 a.m.

Location: Spartanburg High School.

Due to potential inclement weather, commencement will be held in the Viking Arena at Spartanburg High School.

  • Parking for family and guests will be in Lots A & B and staff will direct you to the arena. Click Here for a map.
  • Details will be sent to participating graduates via your SMC email. Graduation requirements listed below.

April 20: Cap and gown pick up event (Gibbs Lobby, 11a.m.-3p.m.) *qualified graduates who ordered cap & gown

April 22: True pioneer night (Pink Moon of April, meet at 11p.m. – secret location where graduates have their final chance to be “True Pioneers”) *All graduates

May 5: Presidential Toast with BA Graduates and Alumni Association  (SMC Downtown Studio 6p.m.) *BA Graduates

May 6: Graduation Practice Meeting (12p.m. Dining Hall Fireplace Room) - Mandatory meeting for all graduates for important announcements and information about commencement

May 6: Pioneer Sendoff Campus Farewell Lunch (12-2p.m. Student Center Plaza) for all graduates and SMC Community *All Graduates

May 7: Commencement (9a.m. Spartanburg High School Viking Arena)

  • All students, family, and guests are invited to a reception immediately following the commencement ceremony in the practice gymnasium next to Viking Arena.

Graduation Requirements

Participation in commencement is open to May graduates, potential summer school graduates, and December graduates from the prior year. There is no separate fall/winter ceremony.

Students participating in the commencement ceremony must have:

  • A cumulative 2.0 or higher GPA
  • Summer School graduates can lack no more than eight hours of degree requirements and must be pre-registered in the College's Summer School.
  • The student's last class(es) must be SMC courses.
