Calendar of Events

2023 Commencement Ceremony

Date/Time: Saturday, May 13 at 9 a.m.

Location: Spartanburg High School - Viking Stadium

  • Details will be sent to participating graduates via your SMC email. Graduation requirements listed below.

Friday, March 24: True pioneer night (10 p.m. – secret location where graduates have their final chance to be "True Pioneers") *All graduates

Thursday, March 30: Honor Society Induction Ceremony (Gibbs Auditorium, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.) *Students and families

  • Small reception to follow ceremony in Gibbs Lobby

Wednesday, April 19: Cap and Gown Pick-Up Event (Ellis Hall, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.) *Graduates who ordered cap & gown

Thursday, April 20: SMC Awards Night (Gibbs Auditorium, 7 - 8:30 p.m.) *Students and families

Friday, May 12: Graduation Party (Judd Lawn, 7 - 10 p.m.) *Students, families, and guests

Saturday, May 13: Graduation practice (7:30 a.m. Spartanburg High School auxiliary gym) *All graduates

  • All graduates must meet in the auxiliary gym at 7:20 a.m.

Saturday, May 13: Commencement Ceremony (9 a.m. Spartanburg High School Viking Stadium)

  • Breakfast boxes will be served to students during line-up prior to commencement.
  • All students, family, and guests are invited to a reception immediately following the commencement ceremony in the practice gymnasium next to Viking Arena.

Graduation Requirements

Participation in commencement is open to May graduates, potential summer school graduates, and December graduates from the prior year. There is no separate fall/winter ceremony.

Students participating in the commencement ceremony must have:

  • A cumulative 2.0 or higher GPA
  • Summer School graduates can lack no more than eight hours of degree requirements and must be pre-registered in the College's Summer School.
  • The student's last class(es) must be SMC courses.
