As part of our comprehensive prevention program for our students, Spartanburg Methodist College has partnered with Student Success and Vector Marketing to bring sexual assault education and prevention and alcohol and drug education to our students throughout their time at SMC.

Student Success holds the following beliefs and values that guide their programming:

• We believe when students know enough, they’ll respond positively to survivors, and won’t blame victims.
  
• We believe online training must engage students’ hearts as well as their minds.
  
• We believe students will come to understand these aren’t just women’s issues, and that they affect us all.

Spartanburg Methodist College requires each member of the first-year class to complete two courses, Sexual Violence Prevention and Alcohol and Other Drugs. These online courses will empower students to make well-informed decisions about issues that affect their college years and beyond. New students in both the fall and spring semesters will complete safecolleges training as part of their SMC 101 course. 

Sexual Violence Prevention for Undergraduate Students is a reality-driven course designed to educate students about consent, healthy relationships, bystander intervention, as well as the realities of sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and more. Featuring student presenters and survivors, the course includes scenarios, testimonials, and key advice for dealing with these crucial topics. This “Full Course” includes all content from the “Primary” course as well as additional educational materials, such as testimonials and scenarios to reinforce key concepts.

Alcohol and Other Drugs is a reality-driven online course designed to educate students on the risks of the abuse of alcohol and other drugs, and to teach successful strategies for handling dangerous situations related to these substances. The course features four modules: Your GPA, Your Brain, Your Peers and Your Life. Each section provides extensive, research-backed evidence of the detrimental effects alcohol and other drugs can have, and how social skills and interactions can help reduce harm associated with these substances.

Students can use their own computers, their phones, or computers in the library or computer labs to complete the programs. We suggest using the Google Chrome browser to complete the program. You must use a computer with an internet connection and audio.
