Skating on the Square, the open-air ice skating rink on Morgan Square, will open its eight-week season on Friday, Nov. 15. A few more details about Friday’s grand opening:
3 p.m. to 5 p.m.: Free skating!
4 p.m. to 7 p.m.: Free caricature portraits!
5:30 p.m.: Official opening ceremonies, including a performance by Meeting Street Academy students, the Greenville Figure Skating Club, and appearances by costumed characters. Santa will also be on hand, and there will be assorted prizes and giveaways.
Skating on the Square will be open through Jan. 5. As it was last season, the cost to skate is $10, which includes skate rental and is good for all day.
Hours for the rink: 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays, 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturdays.
While schools are out for winter break, the rink will extend its hours, opening at 11 a.m. on weekdays.
And, yes, the rink will be open on all the holidays:
Thanksgiving (3 p.m. to 9 p.m.), Christmas (4 p.m. to 9 p.m.), and New Year’s Day (4 p.m. to 9 p.m.).
The City’s Special Events staff has added a number of special features and dates to the calendar this year, including
“2-fer Tuesdays” (buy one admission, get one free every Tuesday), hockey lessons on Sundays (11 a.m. to noon, $2), skating lessons, birthday and private party rentals, student and college nights, a New Year’s Eve party, and $5 “Lunchtime Skates” most Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
