Pioneer Power Up

Pioneer Power Up is a four day experience, August 20-23, designed to introduce new students to life at SMC. Students are divided into groups called PACK teams as they participate in activities, service opportunities, and educational sessions designed to help students transition to college life, specifically life at SMC.

Each PACK team is led by a Pioneer Peer. These are sophomores who are trained to share important information about the college, to serve as mentors, and to provide a helping hand to new students. Pioneer Peers continue with their PACK team throughout the first semester in the capacity of a peer leader for the SMC 101 Freshman Year Experience class.

The official start to Pioneer Power Up begins the evening of Saturday, August 20, the day resident freshmen move onto campus, with activities for resident and commuter students. Activities continue throughout the weekend and into Tuesday. During Pioneer Power Up, students will participate in the SMC Honor Code Signing Ceremony,  a Giant Icebreaker, a Bowling Party, PACK Team meetings, and much more! It’s a full schedule for students to help those who are experiencing some anxiety due to being away from home, but with some downtime built in to help foster relationships between students in an informal setting.

* On Sunday, August 21, SMC will present “Sex Signals” the most popular program on sexual assault awareness among college audiences and educators. Click here for more information.
