COVID-19 Testing at SMC:

All students are required to be tested each week.

Testing is located in the Buchheit Boardroom (between the library and admin building). Students will receive information about how to schedule their testing times. Check your SMC email frequently.

  1. Your COVID-19 test results will be ready within 48 – 72 hours from the date and time that your test was taken.
    1. "Not Detected" means you are negative for COVID-19 (no further action is needed on your part).
    2. "Indeterminate" means that the test did not detect a clear positive or negative result. (You must contact us at, text or call 864-590-6595).
    3. "Detected" means you are positive for COVID-19 (You must contact us at, text or call 864-590-6595).
  2. Once you have retrieved your results, if your results are Detected-Positive or Indeterminate, call or text SMC Wellness at 864-590-6595 to notify us. You can also email with your name, results, and contact number.  A staff member will connect with you to discuss a plan for what will need to happen next.

  3. If you have not received your results, please ensure 3 full days have passed since your test date. Then call the helpline at 877-377-3880 or 803-830-4120.  You can reach them by email at as well.  They will work to secure your results as quickly as possible.

  4. Note: If you test positive, you may receive a phone call from DHEC, South Carolina’s Department of Health and Environmental Control, as part of their contract tracing efforts.

As always, we are here to help! If you have questions, please reply to this email, or call (864) 590-6595!

Faculty and staff are encouraged to get tested.

Testing is located in the Buchheit Boardroom (between the library and admin building). It is available for faculty and staff without an appointment:

Monday - Friday
10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

All students, faculty and staff are required to notify the College via the HealthChampion app if:

  • You are exposed to COVID-19

  • You test positive for COVID-19

  • You have symptoms of COVID-19

#1. INDOORS: WEAR A MASK UNLESS YOU ARE ALONE.  Wearing a mask keeps you from spreading the virus if you are infected and don't yet know it. All staff and faculty will be given masks, and you may also bring your own EXCEPT for masks with a front valve.
#2. SOCIAL DISTANCE: STAY SIX FEET APART EVERYWHERE POSSIBLE.  Staying six feet apart protects you and others from virus droplets that can be spread through breathing, talking, sneezing or coughing. Practice social distancing even when wearing a mask.
#3. OUTDOORS: IF YOU SOCIAL DISTANCE, YOU DON'T NEED A MASK.  Virus droplets disperse quickly in the open air, making it safer to be outside. You still need to practice social distancing outside at all times.
#4. WASH YOUR HANDS AND COVER COUGHS AND SNEEZES.  Hand washing kills COVID-19. Use warm water and soap, and scrub for at least 20 seconds. Do this frequently throughout the day. Or use a hand sanitizer that is at least 60% alcohol.
#5. TRACK YOUR HEALTH EVERY DAY BY USING THE HEALTH CHAMPION APP.  All students, faculty and staff will track their health every day of the week through our HealthChampion app. Assessments must be complete before arriving to campus or leaving Residence Hall rooms. If you need help setting up your HealthChampion app, read our how to guide.

As Pioneers Together, we'll work to prevent COVID-19 spread on campus

Keeping the campus community protected from COVID-19 will take all of us: students, staff and faculty. Here's the full plan for how SMC will work across the four major areas of protection - hygiene, masks, social distancing and health tracking - to slow or prevent a COVID-19 outbreak from closing campus this fall.
