COVID-19 Guidelines for Visitors

Visitors are welcome on SMC’s campus! We invite you to enjoy SMC’s supportive, caring community.

Please observe the COVID-19 protection requirements below when visiting SMC.

Visitors who cannot wear a mask for medical reasons:

For the health and safety of visitors and SMC employees and students, we ask that anyone who is unable to wear a mask make every effort to conduct campus business via telephone or virtual meeting.

If an in-person visit to campus is the only available option, before arriving on campus, visitors should alert the SMC department or contact regarding their inability to wear a mask. Accommodations may include:
  • Waiting in your vehicle for a call or text alerting you of when you may safely enter a building
  • Meeting outside if weather and circumstances permit
  • Meeting in an alternate indoor space where increased social distancing may be observed

Visitors with questions about these and other requirements should contact Campus Safety at 864-587-4003.

COVID-19 Protective Requirements:

#1. MASKS ARE REQUIRED TO BE WORN INSIDE CAMPUS BUILDINGS. If you do not have a mask, you will be required to stay outside of campus buildings. You may pick up a free mask in the Buchheit Administration Building lobby (park in the Visitor's Circle) or in Campus Safety (Kingman Residence Hall). You may also wear your own mask EXCEPT for masks with a front valve. Children under age two should not wear a mask.

#2. SOCIAL DISTANCING IS REQUIRED ON CAMPUS: STAY SIX FEET APART WHERE POSSIBLE.  People who live in the same household do not have to practice social distancing; however, you must remain six feet apart from other SMC students, staff and faculty.

#3. MASKS ARE NOT REQUIRED TO BE WORN OUTSIDE WHILE ON CAMPUS.  Social distancing is still required outside. People in the same household do not have to wear masks or practice social distancing when outside. Please remain six feet apart from SMC students, faculty and staff who do not live in your household.

#4. WASH YOUR HANDS AND COVER COUGHS AND SNEEZES.  Hand washing kills COVID-19. Use warm water and soap, and scrub for at least 20 seconds. Do this frequently during your visit if possible. Please use the hand sanitizer dispensers located throughout campus. Cover sneezes with a tissue or the inside of your elbow.
