Bachelor of Arts in Humanities to Launch in Fall 2025
Spartanburg Methodist College is launching another path for students to earn a college degree with the announcement of the new Bachelor of Arts in Humanities starting in the fall of 2025.
“The new humanities degree is a logical addition for our liberal arts focus,” said Provost and Executive Vice President Dr. Curt Laird. “Integrating the arts and humanities into a general degree will give students a broad-based education that will prepare them for a wide variety of career and leadership paths.”
Students pursuing a humanities degree will study a variety of disciplines, taking courses in various subjects, including art, drama, communications, English, history, and other humanities subjects.
Through this multidisciplinary approach, students will learn to think critically and creatively, analyze and interpret data, communicate complex ideas, and appreciate diverse cultures and perspectives to better work in teams.
Combining these liberal arts ideals with SMC’s Camak Core professional development curriculum will prepare graduates for careers in teaching, journalism, editing, social work, and much more.
“Our objective is to prepare graduates for success, not just to get a job. That’s why we provide them the professional skills they’ll need in the workplace and the academic knowledge to grow and excel in their chosen profession,” said Scott Cochran, SMC President.
The humanities degree is the ninth bachelor’s SMC has launched since it began offering four-year degrees in 2019.
