The Dr. James S. Barrett Memorial Award, which recognizes an individual on campus who goes out of their way to assist or support SMC’s mission and efforts, was presented to Trina Gilliam.
According to Don Tate, Director of Development for SMC, who presented this year’s award, “Every time one of us has had a need in the past year for a photographer and that duty was not a part of anyone’s job description…..we went to Trina. And she was always more than willing to do her usual outstanding job. Trina would make herself available at times when her plate was “Full and Over-flowing.” She has spent time on Saturdays to take pictures for Alumni Weekend, she has spent some of her evenings taking photos at Donor’s Appreciation Dinners, she has taken photos that are used in our Planned Giving Newsletter, The SMC Legacy, and she has even traveled to Charleston to take pictures at an Alumni gathering down there. She did all this to help us while handling all her other responsibilities of:
- Yearbook Advisor
- Coordinator of the Behavior Intervention Team
- Coordinator, Director of Conflict Student Resolution and Ethics
- Title IX Deputy
Trina has been a member of the SMC family since 2001. She earned her A. B. in Business Management from Southern Wesleyan University and earned her Master’s in Education from Clemson University. She continues as an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
