Rescue by Jews in the Holocaust

September 21, 2022 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

The desire to exhibit “Rescue By Jews During the Holocaust” at Spartanburg Methodist College grew out of collaboration between Dr. Kirk Hansen, Professor of History, and Mr. Josh Holt, Director of Arts Enrichment. There are three levels of engagement that we wish to achieve through this exhibit: classroom, campus, and community.
First, Dr. Hansen is teaching the class 20th Century Genocide (HIST 420) in which the Holocaust occupies a central focus. This exhibit would enhance the curriculum in place and provide the students with planned opportunities to engage with the material outside of the classroom and with the wider campus.
This second level, the college campus, will be engaged not only through Dr. Hansen’s students, but also by locating the exhibit in Ellis Hall. We intend for students, faculty, and staff of the college to be confronted with the realities of the Holocaust and the stories of survivors on a regular basis for a month.
Finally, we plan to extend this educational experience to the wider community through a public opening ceremony where we hope to collaborate with a member(s) of the local Jewish community who will provide an introduction to the exhibit. The exhibit would then be open and welcome to all members of the campus and public alike.
