Auditions for Spring Musical Hands on a Hard Body

Announcing the SMC Spring Musical — HANDS ON A HARDBODY — with music by Trey Anastasio (of Phish) and Amanda Green.

This is the story of 10 people trying to win a truck in an endurance contest to see who can keep their hand on the truck the longest. It is based on a true story — there is a documentary movie (same title) about the real-life contestants.

Auditions will be THURSDAY, JANUARY 12 from 3:30-6:00pm in Gibbs Auditorium
Callbacks (auditions part 2 for select roles) will be Friday, January 13 starting at 3pm.

CASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:

9 Male Roles:
JD Drew – 60, white, a contestant. Used to Be and Keep Your Hands On It
Benny Perkins — mid 40s, white, a contestant. Hunt With the Big Dogs and God Answered My Prayers
Greg Wilhote — early 20s, any race, contestant. I’m Gone (duet)
Chris Alvaro — late 20s former soldier, any race, contestant. Stronger
Ronald McCowan — 35, African American, contestant. My Problem Right There
Mike Ferris — late 30s, sales manager at the dealership, white. Burn That Bridge
Jesus Pena — 20s, Latino college student, contestant. Born in Laredo
Frank Nugent — 20s or 30s, any race, radio disc jockey, ideally plays guitar, but could be mimed. Hands on a Hardbody
Don Curtis — husband to contestant Janis, any race. If She Don’t Sleep

6 Female Roles:
Kelli Mangrum — Early 20s, any race, contestant. I’m Gone
Heather Stovall — 29, white, blonde, shows her legs, contestant. Burn that Bridge
Virginia Drew — mid 40s, JD’s wife, white. Alone With Me
Cindy Barnes — 30s, works at the dealership, white. non-singing role
Norma Valverde — 30s Latina woman, contestant. Joy of the Lord
Janis Curtis — tough granny, maybe missing teeth, any race. If She Don’t Sleep and Its a Fix

Hands On A Hardbody (Original Broadway Cast Recording)

WHAT TO EXPECT AT AUDITIONS
Bring all your known conflicts during rehearsal evenings Monday-Thursdays January 23-March 26 (excluding Spring Break). You will fill out an audition form.
Wear clothing you can move/dance in and tennis shoes. You will be taught a short dance sequence as part of the audition
Be prepared to sing a song to show off your voice. You can sing a song from the show or The Star Spangled Banner.
