Our 110 acre, beautifully wooded campus is located in Spartanburg, South Carolina, within very easy driving distance to South Carolina’s coast and North Carolina’s slopes, as well as the cities of Asheville, Atlanta, Charleston and Charlotte.

With an average of 226 sunny days a year, Spartanburg attracts visitors and residents from around the world.

Seven institutions of higher learning make it an officially designated “College Town,” while world headquarters for global corporations like Extended Stay Hotels, QS/1 Data Systems, Denny’s restaurants and Milliken help make it a true international city.

Spartanburg is also home to the NFL Carolina Panther’s training camp.

2016-2017 Enrollment Totals:

  • 737 students (53% men/47% women).
  • Our student population represents almost every SC county, nine states and four countries.
  • All of our students are freshmen and sophomores.
  • 60% of students live on campus.
  • 37% are first-generation college students.
  • 43.5% are minority students.
SMC employs 41 full-time faculty.

Our student/faculty ratio averages 18:1.

SMC offers six Associate Degrees:

  • Associate in Arts
  • Associate in Religious Studies
  • Associate in Science
  • Associate in Business Administration
  • Associate in Fine Arts
  • Associate in Criminal Justice Degree.

You may also remain at SMC and complete your bachelor’s degree online via Palmetto College, MUSC or many other online degree programs.

SMC is a liberal arts college. We award only undergraduate degrees.

The characteristics acquired through a liberal arts education are the ideal foundation for lifelong learning. Our students are challenged to think beyond a linear field of study. New ideas are encouraged, tested, and put into practice. Group projects teach understanding and openness to the ideas of others. In-class presentations sharpen communication skills. Leadership abilities are strengthened through participation in student organizations. Athletics foster a sense of loyalty and commitment. Creativity and imagination are encouraged by involvement in the arts and educational programs. Community outreach projects foster civic and social responsibility. At SMC, our students graduate prepared to use the skills they attain here to build careers, lead others and strengthen our society.

The Pioneer spirit permeates the campus here at SMC. Our nationally ranked intercollegiate programs include thirteen sports for men and women and intramural sports.

Any South Carolina High School student with a 3.0 or greater GPA may attend SMC on a Full Tuition Scholarship.
