About SMC

Welcome to Spartanburg Methodist College!

We’re glad you’re here.

Since 1911, Spartanburg Methodist College has led the way in innovation in higher education. Early in our history, we launched the first cooperative education program in the country, and we are South Carolina’s first liberal arts college to offer 18 hours of for-credit career development training in our first bachelor’s degree program. We care deeply about our students and their dreams, and we are dedicated to creating a marketable liberal arts degree to help them reach their goals.

Small class sizes, personalized support and quality academics help our students excel in the classroom.  Opportunities for extra-curricular activities that engage students’ diverse talents and interests are readily available. Our Camak Core of career development courses prepare students well for their lives after graduation.

With a faculty and staff who care intensely about our students’ success, SMC is committed to making dreams come true. We require students to achieve the associate degree (or its equivalent) prior to entering our bachelor’s degree program because we know that possessing the two-year degree will make them more successful, whether they finish a bachelor’s degree or go directly into the workforce.

Our 110-acre, beautifully wooded campus located in Spartanburg, South Carolina, is friendly and welcoming. We are a strong, close-knit community with openness – to people, ideas, and differences. At the center of it all are our people who are dedicated to creating a robust educational environment where students can learn and grow to be the best version of themselves that they can be. Our campus ministry program offers students the opportunity to celebrate their faith through our campus worship services, activities, and service opportunities.  In addition, numerous organizations provide opportunities for students to get involved and serve others.

As you browse through our website, you will find information about the people, programs and events that make our college so special. But to truly experience the beauty of our campus and our people, you need to see it for yourself. We can’t wait to meet you.
