Meet Dr. Harriet Rucker
About me: Hi! I’m Dr. Harriet Rucker.
Q: Why did you choose to be a Trustee for SMC, and what is your connection to SMC?
A: I chose to be a Trustee because of my love for SMC. I attended SMC along with five of my siblings. My father was a Methodist Minister and we had connections with the college. While our family has seven children, our youngest chose elsewhere to go to school. He, however, developed a love for SMC and served on the board as well. We want to work to make the college stronger and better.
Q: What do you like most about being an SMC Trustee?
A: We have a strong Board at SMC and I enjoy hearing their thoughts about the future of SMC. We work together, with the administration, to strengthen SMC's present and future.
Q: In your own words, what is SMC's mission and purpose?
A: SMC's mission is to work toward being an institution that provides a safe, wholesome, well-rounded environment for our students with various types of programs of study for their futures.
Q: What do you like to do for fun?
A: I enjoy athletic events (football, basketball, and baseball), music and art presentations, and having fun with my family. I especially love having fun with my six grandchildren and being a part of their activities.
