Spartanburg Methodist College is excited to welcome Dr. Michael Burriss as Professor of Spanish. Michael brings 10 years of teaching experience in secondary and higher education settings to the position, as well as an intimate knowledge of Spanish culture gained from extensive travel and living abroad experiences.

Michael’s teaching interests include El Camino de Santiago de Compostela (“The Way of St. James”), a historic 500-mile pilgrimage to the tomb of the apostle St. James in northwest Spain. He’s completed the Camino three times.

Michael received his Ph.D. in Spanish Literature from the University of Georgia in 2013. He completed a Master’s Degree in Spanish from Auburn University in 2008 and a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish from Erskine College in 2006.
