SMC Inducts 60 Students into Honor Societies

Recognizing achievement. That was the theme of the night when Spartanburg Methodist College inducted more than 40 new students into the College’s three honor societies.

The students took their earned place into Sigma Kappa Alpha, Psi Beta, and Phi Theta Kappa – some into two and one student into all three.

“I hope you are taking a moment to be as proud of yourselves as we are of you,” said guest speaker Dr. Kim Duckett, Biology Professor at SMC. She discussed the history and significance of each honor society and emphasized the core values – scholarship, leadership, and service.

“You hold the potential to shape the future if you remember these core values,” she added.

Sigma Kappa Delta is the national English honor society. Students must earn a 3.25 GPA with no lower than a “B” grade in any college English course taken. Students inducted by Dr. Dalicia Raymond were:

Emi Bedoya, Ashtyn Blackwell, Estafania Castro Arenas, Kevin Cochran, Daphne Diaz, Nayeli Godinez Huapilla, Julia Guzman, Lyndsay Hathaway, Jayla Hughes, Kadin Hurt, Taquasia Johnson, Erin Lewis, Chy Lyles, Treasure McNeil, Kristy Merchant, Quayla Nolan, Yoshi Paniagua Alejo, Ricardo Ramos, Alexandria Reyes-Avalos, and Jaden Smith.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Psi Beta is the national psychology honor society inducting students with an overall GPA of 3.25, completion of 12 academic hours with a “B” average in psychology 101 and/or psychology 201. A high standard of personal behavior and integrity is required. Students inducted by Dr. Karla Reed were:

Phi Theta Kappa is a national scholastic honor society. Students must have an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher with a minimum of 16 academic hours and be of good moral character and possess recognized qualities of citizenship. Students inducted by Dr. Kristen Welch and Dr. Maria Kithcart were:
