President Cochran’s Speech Inspires at
Mayor’s Walk & Roll Event
SMC President Scott Cochran is a believer. He believes everyone has their part to contribute to our community and society, from the students who pass through the College to those with special needs who pass through our lives every day.
Cochran provided the keynote address at this year’s Mayor’s Walk & Roll event, sharing his inspiring message about achievement. The event brings together community members, local leaders, and people with disabilities to participate in a walk/roll downtown to showcase the importance of accessibility and inclusion in Spartanburg County.
“Whatever challenges someone faces in life, everyone has value and is important to our community,” Cochran said. “It’s up to us to recognize that value and provide the opportunity and access for them to succeed.”
The Walk & Roll starts with community leaders joining hundreds of students from across Spartanburg County on a walk through downtown to the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium. There, the group hears from speakers like Cochran about the importance of access and accessibility.
“The Annual Mayor’s Walk & Roll is a powerful testament to our community’s dedication to improving the lives of people with disabilities,” said Spartanburg Mayor Jerome Rice. It’s a chance to celebrate the diversity and strength of our community while advocating for a more inclusive future, he added.
