The Post & Courier recently announced its 2025 Spartanburg’s Best awards, and the readers named Spartanburg Methodist College as the Best College/University in the city.

Spartanburgs BEST WINNER Logo“It’s great to get this recognition from the Post and Courier and their readers,” said SMC President Scott Cochran. “We tell our students, faculty, and staff they are the best all the time, and it’s cool to have someone else tell them that.”

The annual readers’ poll recognizes local institutions and businesses in a variety of categories. SMC received the most votes in the higher education category, which included Wofford, Spartanburg Community College, and most of the city’s seven colleges.

The award follows a period of growth for the college. Earlier this year SMC reported record enrollment for the second consecutive year, surpassing 1,200 students for the first time.

In the past several years, SMC has grown from a two-year junior college to a four-year degree institution over the past several years. In addition, they have added several 100% online degree programs to provide opportunities for working adults and other students who just can’t make a traditional college schedule work.

Alongside its expanded degree offerings, SMC has introduced the Camak Core, a professional development curriculum built into every bachelor’s degree program. The Camak Core requires students to complete a series of courses focused on workplace readiness, communication, and problem-solving—skills that employers often cite as critical.

“It’s great to get this recognition, but we all know that the most important thing is to provide the students with the best possible education and training that we can,” Cochran said. “We’re here for them, and that will always be our main focus.”
