Megan Aiello named Athletic Director at Spartanburg Methodist College

Megan Aiello, head women’s volleyball coach at Spartanburg Methodist College, has been appointed Athletic Director after a national search. Her appointment is effective May 1.

Aiello will serve on the college’s Cabinet and report to President Scott Cochran. She will provide strategic leadership for the Athletics Department, which sponsors 14 intercollegiate sports.

“We are committed to supporting the personal, academic, spiritual and character development of our student athletes,” said Cochran. “Megan has consistently demonstrated that she values preparing our student-athletes for life after athletics. She is also an experienced and accomplished administrator and leader, and I’m excited about her vision for athletics at SMC.”

In addition to her coaching responsibilities at SMC, Aiello serves as an Adjunct Professor of Health and Physical Education. She is a member of the college’s Title IX Investigation Committee and serves also as the athletics representative on an inter-college committee tasked with exploring the creation of the college’s first bachelor’s degree.

Prior to SMC, Aiello served as Senior Woman Administrator for Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama, where she managed the intercollegiate athletic program in accordance with Title IX rules and procedures. Aiello also held the role of Huntingdon’s Associate Athletic Director/Director of Compliance. In that position, she ensured the eligibility and compliance for 16 NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletic teams.

“It is truly an honor to be selected as the next athletic director at SMC,” said Aiello. “I would like to thank President Cochran and the search committee for this exciting opportunity. I look forward to working with our amazing faculty, staff, coaches and student-athletes, as well as alumni, supporters and the Spartanburg community.”

Aiello earned her bachelor’s degree in physical education from Anderson University and her master’s degree in education from Bluffton College.

With her appointment, Aiello becomes the second female Athletic Director at SMC. Brenda Pair came to Spartanburg Methodist College as Head Volleyball Coach in 2001 and served as Athletic Director from 2002 – 2004.
