Spartanburg Methodist College elects two new Board of Trustees members
Spartanburg Methodist College recently welcomed two new members to its board of trustees. The appointments were made in June at the Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church of South Carolina.
Charlita Atchison lives in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She has been employed with Atchison Transportation Services, Inc. since 1995, where she is currently the chief financial officer. Atchison Transportation is the largest full-service ground transportation company in the state of South Carolina. Atchison received an associate degree in applied science and accounting from Spartanburg Community College in 2014, and recently received a certificate of completion for the Greenville Chamber of Commerce’s Minority Business Accelerator Program. She is now a member of the Ten at the Top board of directors and is the chair of the finance committee at Silver Hill Memorial United Methodist Church.
Dr. Harriet Lee Rucker currently lives in Newberry, South Carolina. She received an associate degree from SMC in 1964 before transferring to Presbyterian College where she received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She also holds a master’s degree in education administration from the University of South Carolina, an education specialist degree from Clemson University and a doctorate in education from South Carolina State University. Now retired, Rucker has worked for the Newberry County School District as both a classroom teacher and a district administrator, and retired from the South Carolina Budget and Control Board. She now serves as councilwoman for the Newberry County Council and serves on the board of trustees for South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities and the Newberry Opera Guild.
SMC board members serve a term of three years and are eligible to serve up to four consecutive terms. All must be approved by the South Carolina United Methodist Conference.
