A few weeks into each semester, Community Life will briefly open a room change request period. During this time, students need to fill out the appropriate form to request the room change. Watch your email for more details from the SMCX Community team. No room changes are considered during the summer.

Yes, you may request a roommate on your Housing Application. It is not guaranteed that the requested match will be granted, but the SMCX Community team makes every effort. All desired roommates should list each other on their Housing Applications.

If specific individuals are not requested, roommates are matched according to information filled out on the Housing Application.

Yes, all of the residence halls are wireless ready and are equipped with 2 data ports per room, which requires a ethernet cable. Anytime, the wireless network is down, it is good to have an ethernet cable as a backup option.

Each student is provided with a bed, a desk, chair, a dresser and a closet. No furniture may be added or removed from the room without permission from the SMCX Community team. Sofas, chairs, futons and other upholstered items are not permitted in the residence halls.

Bridges and Sparrow Halls have regular twin mattresses (39" x 75"). Judd, Kingman, Parsons, Hammond and Willard Halls have extra-long twin mattresses (39" x 80"). Mattress pads are provided. Students must bring their own sheets, pillows and blankets. Extra-long sheets can be found in the "Back-to-School" section in most stores.

Students are permitted to bring a refrigerator and a small microwave. The refrigerator must be 4.3 cubic feet or smaller. SMC endorses the use of the Energy Star rated MicroFridge unit. Students may also bring a coffee pot, as long as it has an automatic shut-off.

Yes, you may use adhesive strips/hangers only. Nothing can be nailed or drilled in the walls or doors.

No, students can come and go as they please. The residence halls remain locked, so you will need your student ID for entry to secured buildings. We do ask that you are respectful to your neighbors to enter or exit the building quietly late at night.

Bridges, Judd, Kingman, Parsons, Hammond and Sparrow Halls are controlled by a computerized card access system and remain locked at all times. Access is gained using the student’s ID card and a personal identification number. Willard Hall requires a special code be entered to gain entry. Students are not permitted to add additional locks to their doors. Campus Safety is on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For more information, please contact Campus Safety (864.587.4003).

A student’s meal plan is included in the cost of living on campus. This allows students unlimited meals per week in any of our food service venues: the SMC Dining Center or Judd Cellar Coffee Shop. For information about our on-campus dining options, please visit Food & Drink.

Students living in Judd, Hammond and Willard Halls will have the housekeeping staff clean the bathrooms; however, we do ask that the students be courteous and clean up after themselves. Students living in Bridges, Kingman, Parsons and Sparrow Halls will be responsible for cleaning their own bathrooms since they are in a suite-style residence hall.

Each residence hall is equipped with at least one laundry room. It is free to wash and dry clothes. The washers require high efficiency detergent, which is indicated by the "he" symbol on detergent packaging.
